I do not need to know how to write just to read Chinese characters)

Ok I’m looking to learn a new language, and would like to try to learn Chinese. I am wondering what are some good resources or software/programs that would help me learn Chinese. I have no prior knowledge of any Chinese or any other Asian language for that matter. I like to watch E Channel. I only watch TV 3-4 days a week. I do watch the advertisements on television. I don’t watch foreign films on SBS. Unfortunately, even if I like to watch the Chinese Language news on SBS every morning at eight o’clock, I can’t because I have a job. I start work at seven in the morning. Listening to Chinese news will improve your spoken chinese.
