This is mandarin Chinese pinyin, by the way. Additional Details So, in the case of "wo xiang yao tang", the "xiang" has absolutely nothing to do with "would like to"? The "xiang" is put before the "yao" to make "wo yao tang" sound more polite? If so, then what is the actual definition of "xiang" in "xiang yao" or should "xiangyao" just be seen as one word basically meaning "politely want"?
