Or are there any more popular languages spoken in most countries?
Just curious to know, and would appreciate your sincere opinions! :-))

I'm learning Chinese soon (Mandarin) but for now I’m focusing most of my attention on the Chinese characters. I'll be taking notes and using flash cards, but does anyone have any other tips for memorizing the Chinese characters? I need some good ways to learn Chinese.
谢谢
thank you

I was just wondering about how to learn Chinese by good ways, such as memorizing, and writing the symbols (forgot what they are called) also could you give me a short list (or however long you want) of Mandarin Chinese colors, ms., Mr. Mrs., hi, bye, why, I, you, we, etc.
If you were American and Mandarin Chinese was your second language do you know how to learn Chinese effectively?

What is the difference between Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese? I'm a teacher trainer in several schools where we have an intake of both Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese speakers. If I put bilingual signs up do I need to find both?

I'm not interested in the "biggest population", "fast developing country" or any economic reasons. I've been studying Mandarin Chinese in Beijing for 3 months and I find myself asking, "Why do I care? Why do I want to study this language?" If china were a slum with no future today, I want some ideas about why I would still want to study the language.

My roommate's older sister is visiting our small New York apartment from China tomorrow. I'm already going to say "很高兴再次见到您" but I also want to say, "Welcome to our humble home!" Can I say, "huan ying ni lai wo men de peng bi (蓬筚; péng bì)"?
Any other tips on how to make her feel welcome in our home? This is her first time in America. She is from Beijing.

I am trying to write an e-mail to some of my Chinese friends back in Seoul, and can only speak Chinese very little. So this is what I have written so far, and can any native Chinese speaker tell me if it makes sense? What I am trying to say should be self-explanatory.
现在我在美国是了。 这星期我在纽约。 我下个月回韩国。 我想念每个人。 希望一切都好。祝你们圣诞快乐!祝你们新年快乐!
And also, can any one translate the following so I can add it to my e-mail?
I can't wait to come back to Korea. If my new apartment is ready next month, I will throw a party at my place when we are all in Seoul (Including Ingrid, and before E-Jin goes back to Taiwan). If not, we should all meet for a nice evening at the "Top Cloud Bar/Restaurant" (Which of course is my treat). Well I hope everyone is doing well, and can't wait to see everyone again. Best wishes, and sincerest regards.
Sincerely,

Hi, I have a number of questions about Chinese pinyin pronunciation:
1. How do you know when "i" in Chinese pinyin should be pronounced "uh" or "ee" or "er" as in the English word "fur" (examples of usage in chi and shi)? I've heard it as all these ways and am very confused as to which is correct, keeping in mind I am aiming for the Beijing accent.
2. In the Chinese pinyin "e", how does one know if it is to be pronounced as the English sound "uh" or "eh"? I have heard "ye" as both "yeh" and "yuh".
3. Does it really make a huge difference if you give your "ch" and "zh" different forces of air, like I know some of the sounds have more air than others, like "p" and "b"...?

Today in school was the course selection sheets for next year. I'm in 10th grade and I can't decide if I want to take Spanish 3 (I had Spanish 1 and currently in Spanish 2), or to learn Chinese 1. I always wanted to take Chinese ever since I don't even know. I never really wanted to take Spanish, my mom made me. I really don't want to waste Spanish because I got all A's in Spanish and I am very good at it. But I know I can take Chinese courses in college, but I want to learn Chinese now. I am so undecided that I will leave it up to the person who convinces me the most to change my future (future, Spanish hehe ;).

I want my boyfriend and my name tattooed on me somewhere but I want it in Chinese letters. My name is Nani, his name is Irving. Throughout our relationship we created Nanirving as our special thing. I can't find this anywhere in Chinese, so I tried combining NaniIrving to make this 纳尼欧文boyfriend . It's disappointing how I can't literally combine them, but this will do. Is this a good idea or no?
Also, I would like the Chinese letters to "Inner Strength" such as making yourself the strength to keep you moving. Thanks a bunch!
