__________ 我们兴高采烈准备出去郊游时,突然下起了雨。
a 正在
b 正要
c 正当
d 在
This was an HSK sample question. I think the answer is d, but don't understand why c (or even a) would be incorrect. I know, for example, that you can say 正当他准备考大学的时候,他病倒了. Any help with the relevant grammar rules will help me prepare for the HSK. Much appreciated!

So here is how it stands.
My parents bug me about the fact that good colleges (ivy league good) want 4 years of foreign language.
Currently I am a freshman in high school in Spanish 2. Personally Spanish is hard for me and the reason I get good test grades are because my teacher literally shows us the test before it starts. But she didn't do that for finals and the a's and b's students (including me) got d's and f's.
The classes my school has are French, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese (2 years only), and Spanish.
I am not in Spanish honors and I'm not recommended for 3 honors but if I take another language I might be able to get into honors in the first year.
So my big question is should I stick with Spanish regular or take another language with a chance for honors?

I recently started to attempt to teach myself Mandarin Chinese. I found a good website that is really helpful, but I still have a few questions. I am also trying to also learn how to write and read SOME of Chinese. So my questions are:
-Can someone explain the whole "Radicals" thing to me?
-And is there a way to pronounce a Chinese character, without know how to pronounce it? For example, like I could make up a word in English, and pronounce it without having to study the word.

II know that in Chinese grammar there is no verb conjugation and that the sentence structure is similar to English
(SVO) but what else is there to know for Chinese grammar?
When do you put in helping verbs in Chinese grammar?
How do you say "it?"(Would it be ta?)
Where do you put in times of day?
Is it true that you add the "le" after the verb to make it past tense in Chinese grammar?
Additional Details
Also to say "is/am" would you use "shi" or "hen" in Chinese grammar.
