I'm currently trying to learn Chinese (I put the quotes because I don't recognize 'nationality'), and the books and audio I'm learning from give nouns for Chinese translation.
Also, I've picked up on different constructed languages, and I haven't come across any language that doesn't use nouns.
Yet, I heard an Alan Watts presentation the other day that described Chinese as having no nouns ("I can't recall a single instance of a noun in Chinese"). Alan described the idea of nouns, or objectifying, as a purely "Western" thing.
Is this true??
How do "Chinese" go about communicating without nouns?
It's easy for me to see no nouns in some instances, but not for all. Would there be anything like pronouns still used?
Thanks for your help!

How can you tell the difference by listening to it? I'm sure the writing is the same since they're both Chinese dialects so I don't think there should be a difference in writing, unless I'm wrong haha.

Which measure word is right, so that it says "a pair of chopsticks"?
If they're both right, can you explain the difference?
I know that one chopstick is (一只), so both of the instances make sense to me, but I'm just making sure.
1) 一副筷子
2) 一双筷子
