I recently started to attempt to teach myself Mandarin Chinese. I found a good website that is really helpful, but I still have a few questions. I am also trying to also learn how to write and read SOME of Chinese. So my questions are:
-Can someone explain the whole "Radicals" thing to me?
-And is there a way to pronounce a Chinese character, without know how to pronounce it? For example, like I could make up a word in English, and pronounce it without having to study the word.

I'm starting a degree in Chinese in September - The course is on scratch but the first year is supposed to be extremely intensive and they advise everyone to try and get a head start on the language learning. So far I have a really good book that teaches you the characters which I am working through - but it doesn't say anything about Chinese grammar/sentence structure. I am starting lessons with a tutor soon but before then I was wondering if anyone could explain just the basics of Chinese grammar? Or any good links to websites and things?

How would you say these in Mandarin:
1.) You can do anything, but not everything.
2.) I don't want to be alone.
3.) Art is never finished, just abonded.
4.) Jehovah is his name.
5.) "Keep pushing for what u believe, trust me u will be surprised how strong u are."
6.) "A rich man going into heaven is like a camel going through the eye of a needle."
7.) "What nourishes me destroys me"
8.) “There is more to life than just being alive.”
9.) You can pay for school, but you can’t buy class.
10.) A dream is a wish, a nightmare is a dread
Please don’t use a translator I really would like native speakers but if not you too can have a crack at them, (also can you suggest any Chinese quotes and there English meaning)

Ok, here is what I have so far:
我在任何时间都能来,但是星期一到星期四,17:00-19:30,我有微积分课…
I want the second sentence to say...Let me know when to meet you, I don't mind getting up early or staying up late, it doesn't matter, just pick whatever time is best for you.
So far I have 请告诉我我们什么时候谈话,我会早些起床或熬夜,没关系,.....
Can anyone help me add the 'just pick whatever time is best for you.' part? Or do i need to restart, and if so, could you give me some ideas on a better way to say this.

I often default to the most commonly used "和", but wonder in many cases when the other forms would be more appropriate. Would be helpful if one could provide some english analog examples as well with the explaination.

Ok I know this is sort of a dumb question but I'm just curious what other people think.
I sort of want to learn Chinese, but I feel like I will just completely fail at pronouncing the words and sound really dumb. I feel like with an American accent, I'd sound really horrible and somewhat superficial trying to speak Chinese.
I'm not viewing this as a reason to consider for whether or not I learn it by the way; I just want to know what people think about it
Thanks
