I've been taking Chinese with a tutor 1 hour and a half a week for about 3 months I know the basics and now I'm learning the characters. How long will it take me to speak Chinese fluently? I am fifteen.

My friend learned 20 Chinese characters in 1 hour. 5 hours later he still can recite them, read them, and write them really fast. Does this make him a genius?
