How do you tell what occupation your parents have in Chinese? My dad is a ship builder and my mom is a stay at home mom. How would I say this in Chinese?

I have taken both languages in high school, but now, I can only pick one to take in college. So, in your personal opinion, which should I drop and which should I continue taking? Which would be more useful? People have told me that French is a dying language, but still, I'd like to hear more opinions on this. I'm mainly interested in French, Spanish, Chinese, and maybe Japanese. PLEASE don't give me links to download something or watch videos. My bandwidth on my internet is ridiculous, and can hardly go to text-based sites without going over. I'm mostly looking into Rosetta Stone, and they look very good, but cheaper is obviously better. ^^; Unless, of course, you could link me to a reliable site that sells them a bit cheaper would be great. Chinese pinyin is the chinese for beginners to get used to the tones and vocals etc then I can learn either mandarin simplified or traditional. does anyone know the colors in Chinese pinyin or where I can find them? Please write the translation of them (etc. in english and pinyin) or the URL to find them. I have searched in google bing and all but nothing comes up, or nothing useful anyway - because its not in pinyin!

Western New Year is celebrated also with firecrackers. In China, Valentine's Day is celebrated different also. In China, Lanterns are very popular for Valentine's Day. It is celebrated usually by being with the family and having a nice dinner. Finally, people go outside and play.

I'm learning Chinese at beginner level and I really struggle when it comes to learning Chinese characters by heart.

i have an offer to study Arabic and Chinese at university, but i also have an offer to study Arabic on its own, will the former be too hard for me, given I am good at languages, but a native speaker of neither arabic nor Chinese? i am a convert to Islam though so i have big arabic interest and also i have two Chinese pen pals who are native Chinese speakers, and my mum is one of their uncle's friends and they have invited me to china and stuff and also the Arabic and chinese offers a year in egypt and one in china? thanks a lot

What does the Chinese Symbol(s) for Day look like?

Mandarin or Cantonese? I've heard that Cantonese is more often used than Mandarin in countries in Europe (i.e. supermarkets, shops,..) I know that Mandarin is more "important" but I want to be able to put my Chinese to use. I don't really travel to mainland China nor to Hong Kong. I just want to speak with people here and maybe in USA as well. Help!
