I need some help with translating my answers to questions based a speech I wrote in Chinese. My grammar isn't so great and I often make mistakes when I'm speaking so I want this to be as accurate as possible. For my first answer I want to say: Learning new things gives us the confidence to influence others, change old ways, or create new things. I think that sometimes deep down we hope or are certain that if we do any of those things/actions, then we can move the world in a new direction. My second answer is: China's history is long (中国的历史很长)spanning 5,000 years. A important place in china I learned about is the Yangtze river, which is the third largest river in the world. It goes almost 2 million years back and it flows from the plateau of tibet to the east china sea. Tribes such as the Ba and shu tribes have lived among that river. I also remember the Forbidden City that was established during the ming dynasty, the Terra Cotta warriors in Xi'an (兵马俑), and the Great wall in Beijing (长成). Third: In the future, I want to be a nurse. (我想当护士)。In the hospital I visited, a doctor told me language learning is important since they can have patients who can not speak english very well. Communication skills are also important since you want to give patients the best experience. I think I can use chinese and any other languages I may learn in the future to help them. I could even do charity work and go to china to teach english maybe.
My last one: I think flowers can be a symbol for the birth of (or creation) of new things. I decided to use that because now that I have learned a new language, there are many new paths I can choose from. The Chinese language and culture is so beautiful and rich and there are so many things I have yet to learn. it is like that blossoming flower full of fragrances I have never smelled before that I will be able to encounter. Which is the potential.

It can't be referring to 不走 as completed action because it's an action that never happen, right?
It is from a book translated from english. The english version has it as "I thought he'd never leave.".
Also I see 還 in this sentence as indicating unexpectedness. And 以為....呢 as a sentence pattern to show what one believes to be true, turns out to be false. Am I correct?
Any help is appreciated.
