Right now I’m attempting to learn Spanish, but my mom keeps telling me that later the language to learn will be Mandarin Chinese...I see her point and why she would think that but I would like more opinions. What do you think would be the language worth learning? I'm still going to keep on learning Spanish but after that I want to try to learn another that's why Id like to figure out what language I should learn next though I know its my choice I want some ideas first....Oh and another thing what might be some of the best ways to approach learning a different language?

My (Canadian) mother is currently living in China and is trying to learn to speak Mandarin Chinese. She is taking Chinese classes to learn it and is finding it difficult.
Do you have any tips I could give her to learn Chinese more quickly and easily? She has been feeling discouraged at times.
Thanks in advance.

Hey guys.
Now that I have some more time again I am proposing to learn a new language. My native language is German(I live in Germany) and my second language is English which I can speak on a pretty decent level. The third language I learned is Latin (4years).
I don't really know which language would be worthwhile to learn. I was flirting with Italian and Mandarin Chinese. Italian should not be too hard to learn because of my German and Latin knowledge.
Mandarin is just a very interesting language especially now, that China is emerging so much.
I would be open to other languages as well. Do you guys have any idea for me which language to learn and where to start?
Thanks!

I have been pondering this for quite some time and would like to know your take of this.

For example
Ni xiang xianzai gen wo yi qi qu jiudian chi wufan me = Would you like to eat lunch with me now at the hotel?
Could it be phrased "Xianzai zai jiudian ni xiang gen wo yi qi chi wufan ma?"
And does the "qu juidian" mean "at the hotel" or do you have to say "zai jiudian" ? What's the difference?

I'm mainly interested in French, Spanish, Chinese, and maybe Japanese. PLEASE don't give me links to download something or watch videos. My bandwidth on my internet is ridiculous, and can hardly go to text-based sites without going over.
I'm mostly looking into Rosetta Stone, and they look very good, but cheaper is obviously better. ^^; Unless, of course, you could link me to a reliable site that sells them a bit cheaper would be great. Anything helps!

I am a native English-speaker studying Mandarin Chinese. I am interested in getting feedback from native English-speakers who have successfully become fluent in Mandarin Chinese:
1) From the time you began studying Mandarin Chinese, approximately how long did it take you to actually become fluent in the language? (i.e. able to communicate all of your ideas and interests to a native Mandarin-speaker, and also able to understand 80% of what they say)
2) Approximately how much time did you spend studying Mandarin Chinese each day in order to reach fluency? What type of schooling/classes did you take, if any?
3) Which books, online resources, audio books, ect. Do you recommended to facilitate learning Mandarin Chinese?
4) What did you find to be the most beneficial and helpful things that you did as you progressed toward Mandarin Chinese fluency?
5) How important do you think it is to study simplified/traditional Chinese characters concurrently while learning the spoken language?
