this is for my own personal education im curious as to how close i am to translating this correctly anyone out there who has the time to translate this it is much appreciated. Alright here it is:
I went to Seattle for my holiday because I have family and friends that live there as well as a house. I lived in Seattle before I moved to Bei Jing this is why I frequently visit. I stayed in Seattle for three weeks at my old house. During this time I saw many old friends, snowboarded and family members from australia came and visited. My grandmother and grandfather on my mother side came from sydney to share christmas with us. An aunt and uncle also stayed for a few weeks in our house with us. My eldest sister came with her boyfriend on christmas. Both of them already live America. There are mountains to snowboard on within 30 minutes of my house. My favorite part of my holiday was seeing my old friends. Many of them can drive which made it easy to see a lot of them. Christmas and New Years were also fun with my family.

My teacher had me skip ahead a semester, but now I'm having a little trouble understanding some of the grammar in the homework. I would like to know some accurate translations of a couple sentences.
1. 每到週末,學校裏只有圖書館沒人,別的地方人都很多。
2. 新生只有小張還沒辦註冊手續,別的人都辦好了。
I'm supposed to convert those sentences into a 除了...以外...都 construction, which I can do if I understand the sentences correctly. Thank you! ^^

Is "Dàshēngde" "大声的"还是"大声地"?
Also, is"一直"the correct character for "yìzhí"?
Yìzhí supposedly means "to keep on doing something"
Dàshēngde means "loudly"

In China, Valentine's Day is celebrated different also. In China, Lanterns are very popular for Valentine's Day. It is celebrated usually by being with the family and having a nice dinner. Finally, people go outside and play.

I've read several questions and answers about Chinese v. Russian, but I'm still unsure. I'd like to learn Russian in particular because I love to read, and some of my favorite books were originally Russian. But I also know that Chinese is the bigger business language, and if you're going to do that, Mandarin is the way to go. Trying to exclude China's advantage in that area, which is the better choice?

I recently started to attempt to teach myself Mandarin Chinese. I found a good website that is really helpful, but I still have a few questions. I am also trying to also learn how to write and read SOME of Chinese. So my questions are:
-Can someone explain the whole "Radicals" thing to me?
-And is there a way to pronounce a Chinese character, without know how to pronounce it? For example, like I could make up a word in English, and pronounce it without having to study the word.
