The pin yin "Sh" is roughly the same as in english as in "shhhhh". And the vowel "i" in pin yin is pronounced "eee". I understand that the second tonal mark is a mid to high rising sound. So why isn't the word for 10 "Shí" pronounced "She" (ending with a high tonal inflection). Why is the "ee" sound turned into almost an "r" sound as in the word "shear"? Any help would be appreciated. xiè xiè
