I would like to know how to learn Chinese. How long do you think it would take to become fluent in Chinese? I know it is a very difficult language to learn but I really want to learn it. How many years would it take to become fluent?

I really only want to learn the basics... but I’m not sure if software is the way to learn Chinese and my schedule is not very stable so I really don't feel like going to classes. I want to hear from people that have actually tried software without knowing any Chinese at all, to know how effective it is. Also tell me how much time you spent on Chinese learning and which software did you use to learn Chinese. Thanks!

Ok I’m looking to learn a new language, and would like to try to learn Chinese. I am wondering what are some good resources or software/programs that would help me learn Chinese. I have no prior knowledge of any Chinese or any other Asian language for that matter. I was also wondering how long it would take to learn Chinese before I could actually hold a conversation with a native. Thanks.

I want to work at this Chinese restaurant in my town. However, I know only basic Mandarin and they only hire people they know. I have gotten very close to them, and would like to use my basic Chinese as icing on the cake. Could anyone help me with business Chinese in this situation?

Can you give me some good tips on sentence order in accordance with Chinese grammar and how it is different from English?
For example:
I ate lunch with Amy yesterday (English)
I yesterday with Amy eat lunch (Chinese)
wo3 zuo2 tian1 gen1 ai4mei3 chi1le5wu3fan4.
etc.
Thanks

Pimsleur sometimes uses words/phrases in the audio without listing the words/phrases in their dictionary/lesson guide, it's very annoying. That's the best interpretation I can do-- can someone provide me with tones and correct this daily Chinese expression for me? Thanks!

I just saw a part of a Chinese drama and this girl calls a guy that. I think it's something rude because he called her a pig lady before that so she's being mean back at him.
