I was wondering how do you say "I don't care" in Chinese. I'm actually seeking for a word "care". I already know how to say I, and how to make negation. Thanks a lot!

I've always wondered- does Chinese have any roots like how Spanish has Latin roots? Where did Mandarin Chinese come from?

Do kids in China learn to read and write Chinese characters or the spelled out Chinese words?

My Chinese teacher gave me an assignment. And I'm supposed to translate a Chinese text into English. My Chinese teacher is very (VERY) big on preciseness. Last time we translated something, my Chinese teacher graded me down because I used "very" instead of "extremely". For this assignment, should I translate directly? (Like, to the word, and to the comma, even to the point where it doesn't make sense in English?) or should I just glean the meaning from the text and translate that?

I plan to do business in China, so I think I should try to know more about business Chinese, such as business Chinese words, business Chinese etiquette and so on.

How come in Pimsleur the phrase "keyi" or "can" gets rid of the "yi" when asking the question "Ni ke bu keyi gei wo yidiar qian?"-- is this unique to the verb "can" or is it optional to remove the "yi"?

So for “how are you”? Which is better to use: 最近好吗? or 你好吗？ I would use “zuì jìn hǎo mɑ”but I am not sure. Could you help? Thanks! Because, I am Hungarian and if we ask “how are you” then we really expect a longer answer... is this the same in Chinese speaking language?
