0 knowledge: i only know ni hao and what pinyin IS, i can't read or understand any word or phrase spoken. having said that how many lessons should i take monthly for a steady progress? how many months would it take to get to hsk 1 level? or higher?

Well, I really want to learn Chinese, is it hard to learn Chinese? And is it worth learning Chinese?

I'm planning to live in Taiwan for a year, and I've signed up to take Mandarin Chinese at my university, but I want to make sure this will be beneficial to me? How vast are the differences in speech and writing?

I have taken both languages in high school, but now, I can only pick one to take in college. So, in your personal opinion, which should I drop and which should I continue taking? Which would be more useful? People have told me that French is a dying language, but still, I'd like to hear more opinions on this. It would be great if you could explain your answer, but you don't have to...

I'm mainly interested in French, Spanish, Chinese, and maybe Japanese. PLEASE don't give me links to download something or watch videos. My bandwidth on my internet is ridiculous, and can hardly go to text-based sites without going over. I'm mostly looking into Rosetta Stone, and they look very good, but cheaper is obviously better. ^^; Unless, of course, you could link me to a reliable site that sells them a bit cheaper would be great. Anything helps!

I have already begun taking Spanish (in college) and have signed up to enter Spanish II. I love spanish, but I also want to get the basics of Chinese. I already know basic spanish from high school, but I'm definitely not fluent. My major in International Business (with finance or marketing, I havent decided yet) Would it be okay to just take 2 years of spanish and 2 years of Chinese? Or would future employers be discouraged that I didnt take 4 years of the same language. I really want to take both. I know for sure that I can keep my GPA up with Spanish because I tend to catch on quickly with it, but Chinese is going to be so much harder. Any advice?

Chinese pinyin is the chinese for beginners to get used to the tones and vocals etc then I can learn either mandarin simplified or traditional. does anyone know the colors in Chinese pinyin or where I can find them? Please write the translation of them (etc. in english and pinyin) or the URL to find them. I have searched in google bing and all but nothing comes up, or nothing useful anyway - because its not in pinyin!
