I want to travel to China! Can anyone help me with my poor travel Chinese?

I would like to know the real orgin and story about the Chinese New Year. Who started it?When did it begin?

我愉快地意志告诉你关于中文风俗。中国有很多传统节：端午节，新年节，民族文化节。中文节很有意思和好玩。你应该今年暑假到长城，长城有很多中文文化，很有意思。你也应该到北京吃烤鸭，很好吃！ It is meant to be in response to someone asking about Chinese customs and where to go on a trip to China.

I'm keep reading about the different forms/dialects of Chinese that is spoken in China. I was thinking on taking up Mandarin Chinese, but I'm not sure if I will be able to communicate with people from all over the country, since I love to travel all through out the area. Can someone give me some advice, tips, directions, and help with this problem? Also, could you also give me links to where I can buy Chinese learning material or links to different torrents which can be of some help? If this is of any help, I am also fluent in German, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, and French, next to my native tongue of English. Even though I grew up with German being spoken around me. I would also like to add that I would like to learn to read the language too, since I'm big into World Studies and History.

I plan to travel to China during China's National Day holiday. I have no knowledge of Chinese whatsoever and I want to learn travel Chinese. Any suggestions?

I speak French and English fluently. (French is my native language). I'm thinking about learning a third language and my choices are: Mandarin or Arabic. Since I plan on getting involved in public/international affairs, both would be very useful. Any suggestions? Have you learned either of those languages? Did you take classes? (I want to be able to speak either one of those and write as well)

Does anyone know of any Chinese New year activities, festival, or events in Cleveland, Ohio to celebrate the Chinese New Year? Or anything I could do to celebrate it. I would love to be a part of this celebration this year.

maybe about 2 short paragraphs-i'm not good at reading do you know where i can find some? or can someone write 1 for me? the simpler and shorter the better so it should be easy it can be about anything to do with mother's day but preferably something to do with the meaning of mother's day/ importance but it can be anything thanks to anyone who can help

I know they are used for toasting, and I think the first is Chinese pinyin and the second Cantonese, but what do they mean. I guess "kam" is "good" as an adjective, but, "pai" and "bei"? I am learning Chinese pinyin now. Please give me some good websites to learn Chinese pinyin, Thanks!

So I was born in the US and raised there all my life, which is the reason why I have difficulty reading and writing Chinese. Sometimes I feel ashamed of not knowing how to read or write in Chinese, so I will have to work hard to learn my native language. Although I lack writing and reading skills, I am grateful that my parents spoke to me in Chinese (Cantonese) all my life, allowing me to retain my ability to comprehend and speak with fluency. Any advices?

I want to know more than Taiwanese movies and music, protect the CCP, and anti-Japanese sentiment. There has to be something else... is there? P.S. Please don't be offended. I know many Chinese and these things are all I have heard about. I know it sounds weird, but I’m just trying to find something good about Chinese culture. What are some good, fun things about it?
