I want to go to China and learn about the law

I am currently listening to audio lessons to learn Mandarin, and I will start to go to Chinese school tomorrow. I live in Vancouver and all my friends are Asian, if I talk to them in mandarin everyday and they correct me how long do you think it will take me to learn Mandarin pretty fluently.

我想请问大家： “看书” 和 “读书” 有什么区别？ 我的感觉是 ”读书“ 有点 ”学习“ 的意思， 而 ”看书“ 可能是某人的爱好或者乐趣。真的如此吗？ 非常感谢大家的说明！

I've been studying Mandarin Chinese at my school for three years now, and I would like to start doing some independent reading as well. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me of some books (preferably for teens, meaning fiction or other types that teens might find interesting) written in mandarin. Thank you!

Really need help! I'm in China now and very close to graduating..So now I'm writing me thesis, it's about the books for beginners studying Chinese. If somebody used before New Practical Chinese reader book 1 or the book that is called 汉语教程 also the first one, please respond and tell me what do you think about these two books...would be very helpful if you can include where you are from, how long have you been studying Chinese and if you were studying in china, which university and which book you used!! The HSK exam (Chinese TOEFL) is an exam that shows one's Chinese level. How long should you have been studying Chinese and how much Chinese should you know before you could take an Elementary-Intermediate level HSK Exam?

Hello. I'm a 15 year old sophomore in the US, and I plan to learn Chinese in college, Specifically, Mandarin language. I'd like to begin to learn Chinese stroke patterns and how to properly write Chinese characters, even if I don't know their meaning. I feel that by doing this, it won't be such a difficult task as it would be if I were learning from scratch in college. Could anyone recommend me some good media? Money is not a factor. Thanks.

What’s the best book you can suggest for each language? I've read "Japanese: The Easy Way" by Karen Sandness and "Speak E-Z Chinese". If anyone knows these books can you tell me your comments about them?

I am looking for New Practical Chinese Reader Textbook 2 and Workbook 2 answer keys. Textbook 2 (new addition) contains lessons 15 thru 26

Is it really as hard to learn Chinese language as people say? How did you learn Chinese language, thru class/immersion/etc? Can you explain the different tones? How long did it take you to become fluent (at least on a basic level)? Is it worth it to learn Chinese language?

I want to learn Chinese but I can't take it in school. So, I need a textbook and was wondering what are some good beginner Chinese learning textbooks. I'm 13 so preferably one that is at a middle school level and isn't expensive.

I asked my family what is the difference between Chinese and Mandarin. My sister said that Mandarin is the language, and Chinese is nationality, and my other sister said that Mandarin and Chinese are languages.

Hey I am taking classes to learn Mandarin Chinese.....and just last week was my first class....I've found the lessons quite hard to follow because I'm different from a different ethnic background and speak a different language. I also notice that unlike English, where there are ABCs, Chinese is more like symbols.... I am having a hard time of trying to learn Mandarin language....can any of u guys suggest anything that could help me learn Mandarin Chinese...or improve it...?

I've heard that Chinese is one of the most difficult languages in the world to learn. Despite that, I want to learn it. I have no idea where to start, and how to start. Do you have any recommendations on books about learning Chinese? Software? CDs? Anything? Where should I start, I suppose, is the fundamental question.

I've been studying Japanese for a little while, and want to also get into Chinese now. The books for Japanese I used were Japanese For Busy People & Genki Series....these books were GREAT! I really learnt tons! Now I'm not familiar with any Chinese (mandarin) books, so I'm wondering if you guys could recommend any good ones? I've taken a semester of Chinese at my local uni, and we didn't use books, but he recommended Integrated Chinese Can you recommend this book? And please, I don't want a book all in pinyin or anything, I want to use the hanzi as soon as possible. I learned the Kana for Japanese and bought the Kana versions of the book, and this was the Best decision I could have made. Thanks for all the info!
